Club Penguin History - Easter Egg Scavenger Hunts

Written by: || Tags:

Happy Easter everybody!

Whether you celebrate Easter or not, you can't deny that it is one of the greatest holidays of the year. Why, you ask?! Because of free chocolate, of course!

Today, in the true spirit of Easter, I have written a new Club Penguin History blog post. This one is all about how Club Penguin used to celebrate Easter on the Island.

Club Penguin History - Valentine's Day Celebration 2006

Written by: || Tags:

Valentine's Day falls on February 14th every year. It's about celebrating a day of love with your partner, buying them presents and generally acknowledging their romantic presence in your life.

Since Club Penguin host parties and events for most other widely celebrated days of the year -- Halloween, the Holidays and (up until 2013) Easter -- it begs the question, do they ever celebrate Valentine's Day?

Short answer: No.

Long answer: They did. Once.

Today, I will be telling you about the first and last time Club Penguin celebrated Valentine's Day. If you follow me on Twitter, chances are you've seen this tweet that I posted today:

But let's dig a little deeper than a simple screenshot. What exactly was the celebration like and why did it stop? Welcome to the eighth instalment of Club Penguin History.

It is speculated that Club Penguin held their "Valentine's Day Celebration" for one day only on February 14th, 2006, but a few other sources claim it was held from the 13th through to the 15th. As there is such little information known about the event as it was not officially a party, rather a small occasion.

Where did it all begin?
On Thursday, February 9th, 2006, Billybob, the now-retired owner of Club penguin made a post on the What's New blog entitled "More Updates Coming!" in which he revealed some information about new features that would be making an appearance in the coming weeks. At the bottom of the post, he mentioned that a Valentine's Day occasion will be happening, stating the following:

We will have some special decorations up for valentines day, but it won't be an official party like the luau. We decided to spend more time on all this other stuff instead so we hope you understand.

This confirms that the idea for the celebration was pre-conceived, but was not an actual party like the Winter Luau (as per Billybob's example), which is why it is not mentioned in the 2005-2006 Yearbook.

What was it like?
The Coffee Shop, Night Club and Town were decorated with pink balloons and a "HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY" on the Coffee Shop window.

It was previously rumoured that two free items were given out during the Valentine's celebration: the Red Sunglasses and Black Bowtie - but this was proven to be false, despite stating that they were given out in the The Ultimate Guide to Club Penguin Volume 1... strange. In an email sent to Club Penguin Support querying about the party, more specifically the items, they responded with:

Please know that seeing how this was a short and small party, no free items were given away.

It was held in the Night Club, Town and Coffee Shop but the only remaining images are from the Night Club. Here is an image taken in the Night Club from an old Club Penguin blogger, sporting the Black Toque, Black Sunglasses and Bowtie, and standing next to the Penguin Band whilst they were playing:

In 2014, Polo Field, during a "Field Friday" event, brought back the party, by reallocating the room SWF to change it to that of the Valentine's Celebration in 2006:

Here is a GIF of what the Penguin Band's performance would've looked like:

I think it looks amazing, I would've loved to have been there when it happened. They were the only "mascots" to appear there, however they were not actually there; they were simply SWF animations and did not have any player cards/avatars yet.

What happened next?
Well, no one is certain why Club Penguin stopped celebrating Valentine's Day on the Island. Some sources claim it is due to it being for only one day, and not worth the effort for such a short amount of time, while others claim it is due to a significant number of players appearing to not celebrate it (take into account the average player age).

As I mentioned earlier, it is not currently classed in the 2005-2006 Yearbook and little is said about it nowadays. Much like the Winter Luau 2006, it is a party/event that only ever appeared once on Club Penguin.

Maybe Club Penguin will bring this event back in the future, who knows? For now, that remains a mystery, along with the true purpose behind the celebration.

Thank you for reading.

Club Penguin History - 100th Newspaper Event

Written by: || Tags:
It's that time again, it's the newest Club Penguin history post. Every so often, I will create an article showcasing a piece of history from the game. Whether it is a super old pin, clothing catalog, party hat or even just a room. I've decided to talk about a super old event that happened on the Club Penguin island back in 2007: 100th Newspaper Event!

When the official weekly newspaper, the Club Penguin Times written by Aunt Arctic hit 100 issues, there was a small party thrown on the island in the Boiler Room. It took place on September 13, 2007 and lasted for the whole week until issue 101 was released. What makes this even so iconic is the fact that we are now well into the 500's regarding newspapers, and it seems like so long ago that the newspaper was released.

Club Penguin History - Newspaper Hat

Written by: || Tags:
The Newspaper Hat is one of Club Penguin's extremely rare items, making it's first appearance on JUNE 2ND 2006! Now that is old. It only costed 50 coins in the Penguin Style catalog when it first came out, and it was seen for the last time on November 2nd 2007. It was a member-only item when it was released, and now the penguins who are seen wearing it are considered old and rare, which is a title to hold proudly. Now, let's learn some stuff about this oldie.

  • It was on the front cover of the March 2007 Penguin Style catalog, due to it's re-selling a year after it's original release.
  • It was not released again in the August 2015 Penguin Style catalog, despite many other rare items of it's kind showing up including the Chef Hat, Jester Hat, Admirals Hat and black Top Hat.
  • The Editor's Hat, released for Club Penguin's 500th Newspaper Event in 2014 featured a mini newspaper hat icon on it.
  • The original SWF and graphic of the item has not been edited or changed since 2006.
  • It looks familiar to the Sailor Hat when wearing it in-game on your penguin.
  • It may make a return this year, with so many old items coming back for the new penguins.
Here are some images of the Newspaper Hat.

The hat seen on an orange penguin in the March '07 catalog, complete with the green turtleneck and yellow rain boots.

The 2014 Editor's Hat, featuring the sought-after item.

What it looks like modelled on the modern playercard idea, seen on a lime green penguin.

That's all for today penguins, make sure to leave your suggestions in the comments below, and waddle on!

Club Penguin History - Alien Antenna

Written by: || Tags:
A lot of penguins may recognise but not understand the rarity of the Alien Antenna. It is well-known for being the old head item of former Club Penguin Moderator Happy77's playercard, and a wacky item that pookie's may be seen wearing from time to time. The item is indeed rare, despite it not being sought after, albeit being released in 2007 never to be seen again

However, much like the Blue Lei or the 2nd Anniversary Party Hat, it is indeed rare, but it is not often shown off or seen much on penguins any-more. The Alien Antenna is a weird item to be reviewing on Club Penguin History, but it is a part of CP nonetheless. So, let me tell you some information about it.

  •  The Alien Antenna was available in Rockhopper's Rare Items for only a week in 2007.
  • It was available to buy, for members, for 200 coins in RH's ship.
  • It was purchasable from the 22nd to the 29th June 2007.
  • It is an uncommon item to be seen worn nowadays, especially since the rise of new items and players.
  • Club Penguin have made modern renditions of it, with the Pumpkin Antennae and the Bee Antennae.
  • It is the only one of the many 'Antennae' items to be spelt without a second 'e', although it does contain two springs which would make it an antennae.
  • Aunt Arctic once wore it in a Penguin Times newspaper article.
Here is Aunt Arctic seen wearing the item over her regular Pink Toque.

As mentioned earlier, it was only achievable through Rockhopper's Rare Items, here is what it looked like in the catalog on it's release date.

Thank you for reading another edition of Club Penguin History! I find it funny how this item was released in Rockhopper's ship but it is not pirate-y at all! In fact, aliens are quite the opposite of pirates. Got an idea for a post? Let me know on my Twitter page. Waddle on my flippered friends!

Club Penguin History - Cove Opening Party (2007)

Written by: || Tags:
Hello penguins!

Dino Boy7 here, back with another Club Penguin History post, where we travel back in time a few years to recap an event or item on Club Penguin. Why? For nostalgia, DUH! :D

Some of the new players may not know this... the Cove wasn't always a room! In fact, the CP team didn't open it until 2007! To celebrate it's opening, they threw a Cove Opening Party, from May 25th to May 29th. It was a members-only party, but it was a blast. Here are some facts about the Cove opening:

Club Penguin History - Shamrock Pin

Written by: || Tags:
As you may know, one of Club Penguin's most popular items is their pin, an item you can collect every two weeks that are hidden around the island for us to collect and show off in our playercards. For me, they are what make Club Penguin special. As they are only released for two weeks and then they are gone forever. This way you can tell how old or rare a penguin is via their stamp book or playercard.

Club Penguin History - Red Lei (Hawaiian Lei)

Written by: || Tags:
The Hawaiian Lei (commonly called the Red Lei) in Club Penguin is the rarest of all neck items, being released only once at the Winter Luau 2006 and only seen once after that when the Spanish moderator Tato Maxx gave it to everyone who attended his August 2013 party he held.

Most people recognize the Hawaiian Lei on Club Penguin a very rare item and with all due respect, and many penguins wish to obtain this majestic item, to symbolize rarity or to gain respect. This is a post on the history of the Red Lei.  It is Club Penguin's second rarest item, right after the first every party hat, the Beta Hat.
  • It was released during the Winter Luau Party 2006.
  • It has only appeared once, at the party, hence the popularity and rarity.
  • It was spotted on a Tiki Statue at the Night Club during the Island Adventure Parties.
  • It is classed as the rarest neck item on the island.
  • Club Penguin have thought of bringing it back.
Here is a screenshot of what the Red Lei looked like when getting it at the Winter Luau Party 2006.

Many penguins such as Pollywogg, Wolfgang1, Sportygal21, Penguln, Delibird, and Ice Vivi have this item.

"You have found a Hawaiian Lei. Would you like to pick it up?"

The lei seen in a Club Penguin photo snippet.

Here it is again, spotted on the shelf in the Clothes Shop.

Original pictures from the Winter Luau in 2006, Notice how many penguins are wearing it and dancing.

What the Red Lei looks like on Club Penguin,

Who knows? Maybe the item will come back, if we keep asking Club Penguin may finally decide to release it. Personally, I don't want it to be released again because it was such a cool item and I don't want everyone to have it, it's known for it's rarity, and that's how it should stay.

Club Penguin History - Red Hard Hat

Written by: || Tags:
The Red Hard Hat is an extremely rare item that can no longer be obtained on Club Penguin. It was obtainable through the CPIP project back in 2008 by a couple of penguins and will never be brought back. Many penguins want this items because it shows rarity. However, most of the new players do not know of this item and thus the Red Hard Hat is no longer looked up to as it was before.

  • It was released once in the 2008 Club Penguin Improvement Project.
  • If you dance while wearing it you will use a red jackhammer.
  • I received this item through CPIP when it was released in 2008!
  • It is classed as a Beta Item.
  • It can be seen in the Tool Shed on the Club Penguin DS game.
Here is what it looks like on a playercard.
